There is something incredibly emotional about seeing a character who has lived inside your head finally become visible.

I recently commissioned character art of Isadora Espinal from @suiatsea on Threads and Instagram, and I could not be happier with how it turned out. The artwork captures Isadora beautifully, but what makes it even more meaningful to me is that it depicts a crucial moment from The Forgotten Bruja.

I will not reveal exactly what is happening in the scene just yet, because the artwork represents a major part of Isadora’s journey. However, I can say that the moment is connected to the land, the legacy she has spent her life trying to escape, and the transformation waiting for her in Willowshade.

Isadora begins the story believing that freedom means leaving.

She has built a life for herself in France, far away from her family, her hometown, and the painful memories she buried there. When her mother dies, Isadora returns to Willowshade intending to settle the estate, sign everything over to her sister and niece, and leave again.

But the land remembers her.

The secrets her mother left behind begin pulling Isadora deeper into the Espinal family history, forcing her to confront the truth about her mother, her ancestors, and herself. The further she investigates, the harder it becomes to separate the town’s buried history from the supernatural forces awakening around her.

This character art captures the Isadora I have been writing toward: intelligent, guarded, determined, a bit scared and caught between the person she worked so hard to become and the legacy that refuses to release her.

There are so many small details in the illustration that connect to the story, Isadora’s character arc, and the imagery throughout the novel. Seeing those details brought to life made the entire commission feel even more special.

I am incredibly grateful to @suiatsea for creating such a beautiful interpretation of Isadora and for capturing the haunting, gothic atmosphere of The Forgotten Bruja.
