The Ordinary Bruja

For fans of Mexican Gothic and The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina, The Ordinary Bruja is a psychological horror and magical realism novel about grief, ancestral secrets, Dominican brujería, and one woman’s fight to reclaim the magic her family tried to bury.

When strange messages appear in mirrors, and the scent of cigar smoke follows her through her small Ohio hometown, Marisol Espinal must confront the ghosts of her past, the truth about her mother’s death, and the family curse waiting for her on Hallowthorn Hill.

Her ancestor buried the magic. Now it wants out.

Drunk Texting, Done Wrong: A Throwback to Misplaced Desperation

A collage-style image featuring three photos: a woman holding a drink with a cheeky expression, a woman looking at her phone thoughtfully, and a playful holiday party scene with someone draped in tinsel and surrounded by balloons. The bold text overlay reads: "Drunk Texting, Done Wrong: A Throwback to Misplaced Desperation" on a festive red background.

Ah, the cringe-worthy beauty of throwback posts! As I was combing through my archives for this week’s #ThrowbackThursday, I stumbled upon a gem that perfectly encapsulates the chaotic, entertaining messiness of human connection—or lack thereof. Let’s rewind to the day I met Beautiful Tits Gal (BTG) through a series of texts clearly not meant for me, but oh, how they brightened my morning.

The Wake-Up Call

Picture this: soft rain tapping on my window, ocean waves from my meditation app soothing my half-asleep brain, and the unmistakable number of missed texts alerting of a missed communication that occurred while I was happily snoozing. I groggily peeked at my phone, not yet ready to commit to being fully awake, only to find a series of increasingly desperate messages from a mystery texter. Intrigue? Oh, absolutely.

The texts were addressed to Tyler, a name I hadn’t heard in years—or maybe ever—and they told a story. A story of longing, desperation, and… assets.

Meet BTG (Beautiful Tits Gal)

BTG, as I’ve come to affectionately call her, was in pursuit of her beloved Tyler. Her texts were a rollercoaster of emotions: hope, confusion, heartbreak. The pièce de résistance was her heartfelt plea:
“I was the one with the nice, big, beautiful tits. Why won’t you respond to me?”

Reader, I was equal parts amused and concerned. Who was Tyler? What kind of magic did this guy wield that would prompt such impassioned texts? Did he possess a superpower—perhaps a mythical “super penis” or unparalleled charisma? Or, more realistically, had BTG indulged in a little too much liquid courage and found herself stuck in the spiral of drunk texting?

I also felt for BTG, as a person who at that time (and after) had gone through so many breakups and cringe worthy moments of trying to get undeserved bozos back, I truly empathized with her. I was also mad at her because I saw myself in those texts and what I wanted to say was: GET A GRIP!

The Anatomy of a Bad Drunk Text

BTG’s texts were the perfect example of drunk texting gone wrong. They lacked the subtlety that might have salvaged her dignity, and instead, leaned fully into desperation. And let’s be real—if you’re leading with your “nice, big, beautiful tits” it makes me think that this was Tyler’s main focus which means that Tyler’s probably a jerk and not worth BTG’s awesome assets.

A Choice of Mercy or Brutality

As I stared at the screen, I had a choice to make:

  1. Crush her dreams by revealing that she had been texting the wrong number.
  2. Ghost her and leave her wondering why Tyler wasn’t responding.
  3. Preach to her and tell her all the things she was doing wrong and what she could be doing right.

I chose honesty. With a single reply—“Wrong number”—I let BTG know that her messages weren’t reaching their intended recipient. She didn’t respond, but I like to think she took my advice (even if it was just mentally telegraphed): treasure the memories of Awesome Tyler, learn from the mishap, and move on to greener pastures where the person on the other end appreciates her for more than her physical attributes.

What BTG Taught Me

Looking back, this episode wasn’t just a humorous anecdote; it was a reminder of the importance of self-worth. I saw myself a lot in BTG. Her desperation to rekindle something with Tyler, a guy who either ghosted her or deliberately gave her the wrong number, spoke volumes about how much we sometimes cling to people who aren’t worthy of us.

So, to BTG—and to anyone who’s ever sent a text they regretted—remember this: you deserve someone who values all of you, not just your “beautiful assets.” And for the love of all things holy, double-check the recipient before hitting send.

A Word to the Wise

Drunk texting may feel like a good idea in the moment, but trust me: the clarity of sobriety will thank you later. Let BTG’s story serve as a cautionary tale for us all.

Happy Throwback Thursday, everyone! And cheers to learning (and laughing) from our past.
