A Zany Adventure in a Post-Apocalyptic World: “So You Survived The End of the World 3” by K.C. Cordell

Genre: YA sci-fi, dystopian

Format: E-book

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

In “So You Survived The End of the World 3” by K.C. Cordell, readers are taken on a journey with Sebastian Yun, a teenager who finds himself in unexpected and dangerous situations. When Sebastian’s rushed heist coincides with a bandit competition, he must participate in it to escape with his life. However, it’s not just the cut-throat raiders that pose a threat; Sebastian must also confront his past. This YA novel offers a twist on the post-apocalyptic genre, filled with unconventional storytelling and rowdy marauders reminiscent of Zombieland and Firefly.

Be aware I love character-driven stories, so I focus on characters a lot…

One aspect that continues to stand out in this series is the engaging banter between Meza and Sebastian. Their interactions add depth and entertainment to the story, allowing readers to connect with the characters on a personal level. Additionally, the exploration of Sebastian’s vulnerable side and his relatable backstory adds layers to his character. The author skillfully portrays the resilience of individuals who have faced adversity, showcasing how humor and self-deprecation can coexist with challenging experiences.

The dynamic between Sebastian and Scott Buddy is another highlight. With Sebastian’s backstory now revealed in this installment, readers gain a deeper understanding of his aversion to Scott Buddy. This sets the stage for an intriguing progression in their relationship, leaving readers eager to see how it unfolds in future books.

The series as a whole does not disappoint, maintaining its humor and snarkiness within a dystopian society. This blend of wit and satire adds an enjoyable and unique flavor to the narrative, making it a stand out in the sci-fi dystopian genre. While the book excels in many aspects, some readers (like me) who love Meza might find her involvement not as pronounced in this particular installment compared to previous ones. However, this might be intentional to provide space for Sebastian’s character development, allowing readers to delve deeper into his past experience and growth.

It is also worth noting that Sebastian’s character comes across as both old and young simultaneously. This duality makes sense, considering the traumatic events he has endured, which have forced him to mature quickly. However, his youthfulness still shines through, reminding readers of the resilience and spirit that can coexist within a teenage protagonist.

In closing, “So You Survived The End of the World 3” by K.C. Cordell promises an exciting and humorous reading experience. The engaging banter, relatable characters, and unique storytelling make it a compelling addition to the post-apocalyptic YA genre. As a reader, you will find yourself invested in the characters and eagerly anticipating future installments. I recommend this for anyone who would enjoy a dystopian YA take on Die Hard (yippee kayeh ****). Prepare yourself for a thrilling yet humorous adventure in this fast-paced series.
