It’s that time of year again—graduations, milestones, and people all around us achieving great things. And while it’s a time to celebrate, it also has me thinking about how success looks different for everyone. There’s no “one size fits all” when it comes to reaching your goals. We each have our own unique paths, with moments of falling, getting back up, trying something new, and redirecting ourselves just to reach where we are now.
The Fashion of Success
When I think about success, it’s kind of like fashion. Not every style works for everyone, right? Just like some clothes look amazing on one person but not so much on another, the path that someone else took to achieve success may not be the right fit for you—or for anyone else. And that’s perfectly okay.
It reminds me of the advice we sometimes give to others. We often throw around suggestions based on our own experiences, thinking that what worked for us will work for someone else. But we need to pause and remember—just because it worked for me doesn’t mean it’ll work for you.
Give Each Other Grace
Instead of pushing people in a direction that may not suit them, what if we focused on encouragement? Let’s give each other—and ourselves—some grace. Let people try things out in their own way. It’s okay to say, “Hey, I did it this way, and here’s what happened,” but don’t force it as the only way.
I’m a big believer that there are so many ways to get things done, so many ways to “cut the onion.” No matter how old you are or how much experience you have, none of us know all the answers. And that’s a good thing—it means there’s always room to learn, grow, and try new things.
Be Visible, Be Encouraging
For all of you out there trying new things and achieving your goals—congratulations! Keep going. Encourage others on their own paths, and remember to be visible. You never know how your story or actions might inspire someone else. You could be the person who sparks an idea in someone, the light that flips a switch and makes them think, “Hey, I can do this, too—just with my own twist.”
But let’s not shove our ways of doing things down anyone’s throat. At the end of the day, we don’t have all the answers, and no one does. So let’s give each other the space to figure it out, with grace and encouragement along the way.
Congratulations to All
To everyone out there reaching new milestones, congratulations! Keep being your amazing, unique selves. Your path is yours, and it’s beautiful just the way it is.
