Revisiting The Alvarez Girls: A New Chapter, A New Cover

As a writer, the journey of a story doesn’t always end with its publication. Sometimes, you’re pulled back into your own worlds, wanting to dive deeper or adjust things that didn’t quite feel right the first time. That’s exactly where I am right now with The Alvarez Girls. This novella has always held a special place in my heart, and after some reflection, I realized that the story could benefit from a bit of fine-tuning—both in its content and its visual presentation.

Revising The Alvarez Girls

Going back to revise The Alvarez Girls has been an emotional yet fulfilling experience. The characters—Yaneriz and Amaya—are still as vibrant and complex as they were when I first wrote their story, but there are layers I feel I can add. As I revisit their journey, I find myself delving deeper into their motivations, tightening the pacing, and adding moments of tension that I think will elevate the emotional depth of the novella. It’s incredible to see how much a story can evolve with just a bit of distance and time. However, you may find a line there that says, “as empty as a coconut without milk.” I’m sorry. I think I may have been trying too hard to be fancy, and I achieved the complete opposite of that…This goes to show you that no work is truly perfect, even after many revisions.

The Importance of Visuals: A New Cover for The Alvarez Girls

Along with revising the text, I’ve also been thinking a lot about the cover. The cover is the first impression readers get, and I want The Alvarez Girls to have a visual representation that reflects the tension, emotion, and depth within the story. The current cover has served its purpose, but I think a fresh design could better capture the spirit of Yaneriz and Amaya’s journey and the paranormal elements involving their grandmother, La Doña.

I’m in the process of brainstorming cover concepts that balance the emotional weight of the story with the suspense and paranormal aspects. I want the cover to feel both visually striking and meaningful, drawing readers in from the first glance. This process of reimagining the cover has been a fun challenge, and I’m excited to see how it will come together.

Looking Ahead: What This Means for My Other Books

This experience has sparked something in me, and now I’m considering revisiting my other books to see how I can refine them—both the content and the covers. While I don’t believe in constantly tinkering with finished work, I do believe in growth. As I grow as a writer, it’s only natural that I might want to revisit past stories with a fresh perspective. And that’s okay!

Creating new covers and revising content doesn’t mean the original version wasn’t good—it simply means that I’m evolving, and my stories are evolving with me. I’m looking forward to giving The Alvarez Girls the attention it deserves and possibly applying this process to my other works.

What’s Next

As I work through these revisions, I’ll continue sharing updates, thoughts, and cover sneak peeks with you all. If you’re a fan of The Alvarez Girls, keep an eye out for the revamped version, and if you’re new to the story—there’s never been a better time to dive into it.

Thanks for sticking with me on this journey. I’m excited about the future of The Alvarez Girls and beyond.
