Dear Quarantine Diary: Day 23

I understand why my teenager ignores me. I did the same yesterday to the entire household. One minute turned into two hours, and the entire world disappeared around me, and everything was a nuisance holding me back from my superior purpose — earn enough bells to pay for my home in Animal Crossing.

I told the Hubs to hide it from me today. I can’t do that every day, I won’t get anything done. Plus, today, I start my fourth class in my creative writing MFA. Actually, it started yesterday. Have I told you I’m not a very good liar?

At least I got my intro out of the way, but I didn’t read the syllabus and started prepping for the next assignment. You see, this is the big Kahoona, my first fiction seminar! Pay attention to that exclamation point there, cause I’m excited.

So I tasked the Hubs to hide the switch till the evening when I’m completely done with everything. My voice got very low, I looked at him and said, “Your mission should you choose to accept it…”

Not really, that only happened in my head. But I’m serious. This is very serious. I lose control when I’m playing Animal Crossing. Those Nintendo Magicians!

I can play in the evenings after I finish all my tasks because I’m not afraid of staying up late. My body has an internal clock, similar to those ages 60 and over. It switches off like a robot on a timer, exactly at 8:30 PM. I can sometimes push it past 9:30, the latest 9:45, and it gets up at 6’ish in the morning. Before the sun is out except in the summer.

Good news: Sunrises are magical!

Since I was little, I remember being on the same schedule. An early riser, early bedtime. Get everything done in the day. There’s nothing good happening at night. This PSA has been brought to you, courtesy of Mamá’s wisdom.

Sleeping-in to me means waking up at 7:00 AM.

I was never a good company at the clubs. Have I told you the story of the time I fell asleep in a rave? Sometimes I get called a grandma because of my Abuelita habits. I take it as a compliment. I wish to one day be at least an ounce of what that woman was.

Last night was my turn to cook, and since I was behind two hours of Animal Crossing, I made a buffet of leftovers. To splurge, I added microwavable meals. I waved my hands across the table spread and exclaimed to my family, “Dinner is served.”

I think the teenager shook his head before he picked a microwavable meal. But he is so discreet.

Then I topped off their glasses with their favorite beverages because I’m classy like that.

I almost didn’t work out. But I said, “Not today, Animal Crossing. I can’t afford to lose these gains.” I’m currently able to lift the 20lbs kettlebell. That’s unheard of for me. I can’t go back. The older I get, the more muscles I need. To be honest, I also love the appearance of the stiff little mountain peaks on my arms. I ask my husband all the time if he can see my muscle lines. After the third consecutive time, he rolled his eyes, and begrudgingly said yes. The teenager wouldn’t even touch my bicep. He may be jealous.

Spongebob Squarepants with muscles

I picture myself with Spongebob-like muscles. Like the episode when he worked out at the muscle beach, and they grew one on top of the other. I’m going to be so buffed!

I’m staying away from the devil, I mean Animal Crossing so I can be productive. I write this as my way of writing it into existence. Keep your fingers crossed. Write to you mañana.
