I can’t even begin to describe the pride I felt when Adriana Herrera’s book, An Island Princess Starts a Scandal, was spotlighted on The View during the segment “The Ladies Get Lit with Anna.” The raving reviews and sheer excitement around her work made my heart swell. Like Whoopi Goldberg said, “Go ahead.”
Go ahead and show the world the creativity and diversity that resides in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Go ahead and continue to open doors for other authors who don’t fit certain molds, giving them the chance to publish the books of their souls. Go ahead, mami, go ahead.
Meet Adriana Herrera
Adriana Herrera is a USA Today Best Selling and Audie-winning author who was born and raised in the Caribbean. For the past fifteen years, her job and spouse have taken her all over the world. Herrera loves writing stories about people who look and sound like her people, always ensuring they get unapologetic happy endings. The New York Times once described her book as “sweet, thoughtful, and delightfully filthy too.”
When she’s not crafting love stories, planning logistically complex vacations with her family, or hunting for discount Broadway tickets, Adriana works as a trauma therapist in New York City, supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
My Journey with Adriana’s Work
I first discovered Adriana Herrera’s writing when I stumbled upon Amor Actually, a holiday romance anthology, on Instagram. I read it, and I was hooked. Her writing won me over instantly. Beyond her storytelling prowess, I deeply admire her advocacy for Black Romances, POC, and LGBTQ+ writers and their stories breaking into the publishing industry. Adriana Herrera isn’t just an author; she’s a trailblazer.
