I’m so excited (and equally nervous) to share that I’m in the final stages of choosing the cover for my upcoming book, Under The Flamboyant Tree! This is one of the most important parts of the publishing process, and I want to get it just right. That’s where YOU come in.
I’ve launched a contest on 99designs, and I’m down to the last few designs. With just three days left, I could really use your help picking the perfect cover. Book covers are more than just decoration—they’re the first thing readers see, and they set the tone for the entire reading experience. No pressure, right?
But first, let me tell you a little bit about the book.
What’s Under The Flamboyant Tree About?
Under The Flamboyant Tree is a story of self-discovery, trauma, and redemption. It follows the journey of Bianca Ramirez, a woman grappling with the tragic loss of her daughter and the painful family secrets she uncovers. In search of healing, Bianca returns to her childhood home in the Dominican Republic, where she reconnects with her roots and begins to understand the pieces of her past that still haunt her. The flamboyant tree, both beautiful and mysterious, symbolizes her journey towards forgiveness and redemption.
If you love contemporary fiction filled with emotional depth, complex characters, and a touch of magical realism, this book is for you. Fans of Isabel Allende and Julia Alvarez will definitely vibe with this one!
Why Your Opinion is So Important
I know I’m not alone when I say that the cover plays a HUGE role in a book’s success. It’s the first impression, the thing that catches your eye and makes you curious enough to pick it up. I want the cover of Under The Flamboyant Tree to not only be beautiful but to really capture the heart of the story—its cultural richness, its emotional depth, and a little touch of magic.
Here’s what I’m looking for:
- A cover that reflects the lush beauty of the Dominican Republic and the cooler, restrained atmosphere of Massachusetts.
- The flamboyant tree as a key symbol, representing both Bianca’s past and her search for redemption.
- A design that feels magical yet mysterious, with cultural richness and emotional weight.
And, of course, there are a few things I want to avoid:
- No overly bright or cartoonish designs—the tone of the book is serious and introspective.
- No AI or stock images that don’t feel authentic to the story’s setting.
- No romance novel vibes—this story is about personal growth, family, and the complexities of identity.
